Where SCS May Not Be The Answer

EPS May Be The Best Answer

		Eco-Pickled Surface, or "EPS" complements SCS by serving applications that cannot accept any oxide layer at all. The EPS process removes all scale and rust from hot
	band, leaving a very uniform, lustrous finish. EPS is an environmentally-responsible alternative to acid-pickling that can even produce a target surface roughness. To learn more about the EPS process, use this link.

SCS sheet steel is ideal for metal forming, punching and bending, but not so good for galvanizing

COATING PROCESSES TO AVOID WITH SCS


•	continuous in-line galvanizing, but batch (hot dip) galvanizing works well.

•	porcelain enamel coating.

•	electrolytic plating.

•	coil coating for pre-paint. Note: while SCS excels in post painting, some processes performed with pre-painted SCS do not always offer acceptable results.

FORMING & OTHER PROCESSES TO AVOID


Processes that compress or deform the steel enough to disrupt the SCS oxide layer should be avoided:

•	hydroforming

•	cold reduction.

•	deep draw and deep draw with spinning.

•	aggressive stamping (deep, abrupt bends) may need a different (dry) lubricant and process adaptation for SCS to work well.

SCS steel is great for sheet bending, roll forming and punching, but not for hydroforming

Other Fabrication Processes For SCS Steel

SCS sheet steel is successfully used in additional metal fabrication processes:

press brake and bending/folding
sheet metal stamping
punching/turret press
roll forming
grinding

SCS steel's cleanliness and smooth, uniform surface help lower rework and rejects from these operations. It can reduce maintenance versus HRPO, as there's no oil to gum up dies or cause blanks to stick together when destacking, a bane of sheet metal fabrication

SCS also helps keep your shop cleaner. If you use hot band or HRPO, your steel leaves a trail of dirt and oil across your machinery, tooling - even your employees.
