Sheet metal fabricators and manufacturers compete on price and quality. SCS processed steel – whether sheets, plate or coil form – gives them advantages in both. And that's not just for flat fabricated steel products made from sheet; it applies to tubular steel products as well (see slide 2 at right).
This automotive part had been made from HRPO (left), but often began to rust while in transit to an offsite painting vendor. When made from SCS (right), rust is not a problem.
This welded seam SCS tube is used for handrail. When it was previously made from hot rolled black, the customer had to shotblast it to clean it prior to painting. Since the switch to SCS, there's no need to shotblast and the customer comments that the SCS tubes look like they're made from cold rolled.
Key suppliers to major con-ag equipment OEMs want treadplate that has been run through the SCS process. Why? They don't have to deal with rust or oil. SCS treadplate offers "premium performance" to help them better serve these OEMs.
