SCS Painting and Paint Prep

Paint prep with SCS can be a breeze. SCS can reduce, and even eliminate, the need for certain cleaning, rinsing and conversion coating processes – key to cutting costs and cycle time. In fact, in 'salt spray' lab tests, painted SCS samples pre-treated with only a water rinse achieved 300 hours exposure with no paint creep.

That's a huge help to fabricators who otherwise would spend hours wiping down hot band to get it clean enough to paint ... or who would send their HRPO 'out' for painting because they lack a multi-stage paint prep system.

"With SCS, our paint prep time is down dramatically, and the surface is so smooth that we get a superb finish every time."

For some applications, a two- step rinse may provide all the pre-treatment needed for painting SCS. Click below for guidelines on the two-step rinse:
Guidelines for 2-Step Rinse
A manufacturer of electronics cabinets converted from P&O to SCS. The biggest reason was much leaner paint prep – cutting iron phosphate by two-thirds, yet wash solution lasts 5 times longer than with P&O. SCS gives a better paint finish as well.
A maker of hazardous waste containers: " With P&O, we used a degreaser and rinse to remove oil, grime and grinding dust. The added handling created a bottleneck. With SCS, we do a simple five minute wipedown, then take them right to the paint booth."
A maker of outdoor seating and playground equipment states "Since the switch to SCS, we go twice as long before we change out our pretreatment wash solution, yet we can say with confidence we're getting better adhesion and better durability."
